THE FRONT STEPS PROJECT
CURRENT AMOUNT RAISED:$375 of a goal of $2,500
Is this a new episode of Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone?
It’s a very weird time around the world. We’re all in this unprecedented situation that will take everything we have together to make it through. It will take every single one of us, working together. Staying home.
My intentions behind my photographs are to connect people. I love connecting with my subjects while photographing them. I love connecting others with my subjects through the medium of my photographs. I’ve missed shooting portraits terribly during this time.
The Front Steps Project is an incredible project that involves a professional photographer travelling around town and photographing families in front of their home. These photographs have the power to document this crazy time and to connect the world through imagery.
I like to think of these photos as the digital equivalent of heading to the store and seeing someone you know. Stop and say hello. "How’s the kids?"
In exchange for a high quality digital photograph, I ask that you make a good faith donation to South Shore Health System through the GoFundMe setup for this project. The South Shore Health System is an incredible organization working on the front lines against Coronavirus. Recommended donation is $50 but please give what you can.
All photographs will be taken outside from a distance of at least 10 feet away. These photos will not take more than 5 minutes. To quote Cara from her page: “This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session. Want to stand outside in your pajamas and slippers? Sounds good to me. Kids in mismatched clothes but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic. Wearing your bike gear because you’re headed off to ride a trail in the nice weather? Love it! Be you.”
To sign up for a session, fill out the form below. Most sessions occur in the late afternoon when the lighting is wonderful. I look forward to meeting you from a safe distance!

About Ben M. Collins
Ben Collins is a music and portrait photographer from Duxbury, MA inspired by the rhythm, melodies, and stories of music. Ben studies marketing and music business at the University of Vermont. He is also the owner and founder of the production company Ascentios, LLC and the photography publication 'The Other 5%'.
"I’m originally from Duxbury, Massachusetts and I began filming action sports early on in middle school. In high school, I began to do commercial photo and film work for clients.
Around the same time, a couple of my friends started a band called Surfliner and I began shooting their concerts, music videos, and band photos. When Surfliner needed a cover shot for their new single, ‘Nowhere to Go’, I happily helped out. Shooting that cover changed the course of direction for my career towards music and portrait photography.
Music consumes a lot of my day to day. Spotify, CDs, vinyl, music photography, music history, playing music, making music. It's very natural that music is where I draw my inspiration from.
I’ve found more and more often in my career that I’m further inspired when the photos I’m shooting help someone out in some way, whether that is the subject or the viewer. I strongly believe that the photos I take should benefit others more than they benefit me as the photographer."
