A Part Of Someone

The term environmental portrait gets tossed around a lot, and for good reason I believe. An environment in which you photograph someone can easily become part of the portrait. Infact, it makes up half of the portrait. In the past year or so, I've made a point to take portraits of people in places that really matter to them. This shoot with Will Keeper was no exception.
When Will was on the track team at the University of Vermont, he used to practice every morning at this track. This is where he competed. Where he put countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears into the track. And what's more? He grew up just around the corner from the track. So close that this area of town is in his childhood. In these portraits, the track and the location is just as much a part of the portrait as Will is.
